Science Graffiti Wall Area

Curiosity and Creativity

Curiosity is the driving force that moves scientists - and any questioning person. It is also the engine that drives children to investigate the environment around them. It is the flame and fuel of the questioning: 'What is it?', Why? ',' How? '... There are no limits to curiosity.

In this area of the ‘Science Graffiti Wall’, it is proposed a relationship between young people and scientists in the mechanisms that lead to the discoveries. The first ones learn a lot about their little worlds, even before they entered school.

Teaching science must go beyond the use of textbooks. It requires stimulation to exploration, the search for explanation, the construction of hypotheses and theories ... - many of these attitudes present from an earliest age. Therefore, just encourage them.

Connecting the scientist and young people for the observation of the sky was the way the artist found the vital role of curiosity and creativity. After all, observing heaven has always attracted mankind: 'Who are we?', 'Where do we come from?', 'Where are we going?' They are seemingly simple but penetrating questions from the point of view of philosophy.

In addition to the beautiful images, this part of the ‘Science Graffiti Wall’ brings some of the puzzles that spread through the mural.

Richard Feynman (1918-1988), Nobel prize in Physics in 1965, wrote a book that emphasizes the importance of the curiosity. “Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! The Strange Adventures of an Eccentric Physicist " by Elsevier Publishing (2006). According to this American physicist, it is absolutely fundamental to think about our actions to arouse children’s curiosity.

Feynman's relationship with Brazil began in 1952, when he came to work in the CBPF, teaching (in Portuguese!) to physics and engineering students.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day. Never lose a holy curiosity”.
